Are we going to the Monster trucks now?

The big question on Saturday was "Are we going to the monster trucks now?" This question was asked by both Cole (4) and Connor (2). They both have no concept of time. So my answer was never satisfying. "We are leaving after we eat and that is after Sissy's basketball game." "Mmmooommmmm," a frustrated little voice would reply. When the time was finally here they were both very excited and showered us with every parents favorite question. "Are we there yet?" All the way to the Citrus Bowl. From St. Cloud that would be about a 40 minute drive. By the time we got there they could hardly contain themselves. I believe there was giddy laughter, a little hopping like a kangaroo, and very big smiles. We walked our 3 blocks to the Citrus Bowl in the heart of a really bad area of Orlando. Thank goodness OPD was on every corner for the event. It was about 5:00 and the show does not start until 7:30. We had a little wait on our hands. The boys did great! Their eyes were wide open and taking every bit of the experience in. There were ATV races, demolition derby cars and finally the monster trucks. Ten minutes into the show Cole said, "Is that it?" What does he mean is that it? No, there is more, much more! But for Cole that was it. He saw the monster trucks and it was time to go. He was hungry! Nick's reply, "No way! We are staying to the very end!" Cole asked several more times and gently reminded us that he was very hungry. (peanut butter crackers did not cut it) At the end of the racing event Connor was a sleep and Cole was almost in tears. It was time to go! It was only half time and the best was yet to come! Freestyle! That is the part I miss every time. The kids never make it past the racing. We made the trek back to the van and drove home. Cole fell asleep and never did get the McD's he had planned for the past 2 hours. We were home and in bed by 10:30. That sounds so much better than the 1:00 AM time our friends made it home. Great memories!

Before the hunger pains!
Top Left: El Toro Loco winner of the racing event.
Middle right: Monster Mutt one of the many favorites of the boys.

So, maybe next time they come to town, we can leave the kids at home and go on a girl's night out just so you can see the Freestyle!

Seriously. That's funny.

I went to a monster truck rally once, in the Houston Astrodome. And I was mortified that through my ear plugs I could hear someone calling my name. I was sure NO ONE would find out that the princess had attended a monster truck rally. It was 2 of my students sitting a few rows behind us. By Monday morning, it was all over the middle school I taught out..."Miss C was at the monster truck rally!"

How do my children not know about monster trucks?

Weird.

I'm sure it's not because their wicked mother has trained them to hate something like that. That would be evil.

Like the fruiits of the deveeel...

Yes, I was up at 3:30 this morning. Nick turned the heater on and as we all know it is not cold outside. It felt like I was sleeping in an oven!!! So when I told you I was very tired tonight now you know why.
Yes, Connor loves when Monster Jam comes on TV.

Why we choose to homeschool...

Direct your children onto the right path, and when they are older, they will not leave it.
